OK Financial Group mourns Choi Hong-seok...takes lead, reclaims 4th place

Mourning the loss of former volleyball player Choi Hong-seok, OK Financial Group reclaimed fourth place with a four-game winning streak.

OK Financial Group won a 3-1 (25-19 25-15 21-25 25-23) set victory against Woori Card in the Dodram 2023-2024 V-League at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul on Tuesday.

With the win, OK Financial Group, which has won four straight games, improved its record to 12 wins and 10 losses (33 points) and moved into fourth place, ahead of Hyundai Capital (31 points).

On the other hand, V-League leaders Woori Card failed to close the gap on second-place Samsung Fire as they failed to end their nemesis with OK Financial Group. Woori Card is now 1-3 against OK Financial Group this season.

The game was preceded by a moment of mourning for the late Choi Hong-seok, who passed away. Choi was drafted by Dream Six (now Woori Card) with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 rookie draft and won the Rookie of the Year award in 2011-12, becoming the first rookie to win the Triple Crown.

After playing for the Korea Electric Power Company and OK Financial Group, Choi retired from active duty at the end of the 2021-22 season and immediately turned to commentary.

In response, all three of Choi's former clubs simultaneously posted on their social media accounts to mourn his passing, with his last team, OK Financial Group, wearing ribbons of respect, including head coach Ogino.

OK Financial Group rallied from their slump to take the first set or two. Woori Card, on the other hand, tried to break out of their slump against OK Financial Group by sending out Lee Seung-won instead of their main setter Han Tae-joon, but to no avail.

The victory went to foreign player Leo Suhun-gap. Leo poured in 36 points, including four service aces and two blocks, and was supported by Shin Shin-jin (11 points) and Chae Ji-hwan (10 points).

For Woori Card, Matei led the offense with 35 kills and Kim Ji-han provided support with 11 kills, but the teams were evenly matched in attack percentage. Leo was efficient with a 57.69% success rate, while Matei was limited to 49.18%, which proved to be the decisive difference.

Meanwhile, in the women's competition, leader Hyundai E&C won their home match against GS Caltex at Suwon Indoor Gymnasium 먹튀검증 with a set score of 3-2 (30-28, 21-25, 25-16, 17-25, 19-17).

In particular, Hyundai E&C's Yang Hyo-jin scored a team-high 25 points to become the first player in the V League to reach the 5,000-point mark in offense.
